Dussehra Speech: Mohan Bhagwat asks people to remain vigilant ahead of 2024 polls

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday asked people to remain vigilant against “divisive forces” ahead of the assembly elections in five states in November and the 2024 national polls while emphasising the importance of backing the most competent candidates. In his annual Vijaydashami speech, Bhagwat stressed voters should not yield to those aiming to sow discord and divide society. He cautioned some may resort to inflammatory statements and other tactics to manipulate public opinion, but urged the electorate to utilise their votes to counter such efforts and elect the most qualified representatives who worked for them.

Some elements deliberately disrupt peace in India. Fanaticism only breeds chaos, leading to conflicts worldwide.” He referred to India’s growing global prominence and rapid progress across sectors. Bhagwat said India’s exceptional hospitality during the summit of the leaders of the world’s 20 big economies (G20) in New Delhi garnered widespread praise. He added the world saw the richness of Indian culture, steeped in diversity, showcasing India’s diplomatic prowess and genuine goodwill.Singer Shankar Mahadevan, who attended RSS’s Vijaydashami event as the chief guest, lauded the organisation for its contributions to safeguarding the idea of a unified India and its diverse cultural heritage. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis were among others who attended the event.
