Former Guardian Minister of Thane District Shankar Nam dies of heart attack

Former minister and former MP Shankar Nam died during treatment on Saturday. He was admitted to Jupiter Hospital in Thane on Friday due to ill health, but died of a heart attack at 9.30 am on Saturday. Shankar Sakharam Nam (age 72) was three time MLA of Dahanu constituency, MP once and Thane District Guardian Minister and Deputy Minister for 2 years.

He started his political career from the post of Sarpanch of his village Tawa in Dahanu taluka. He was a member of Dahanu Panchayat Samiti. In view of his political career, in 1985, the Congress party gave him a ticket for the Dahanu Assembly seat, which he won. He was elected MLA three times in a row.

During this period in Sudhakar Naik's cabinet he had served as Minister of State for Irrigation, Irrigation, Tribal Development and Thane District Guardian Minister for two years. He then contested as an MP from Dahanu Lok Sabha constituency in 1999 and was an MP for 11 months. He was also working in the political, social and educational fields.
