Heatwave Alert Across Maharashtra Until April 18; Hot and Humid Conditions in Mumbai Today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert across several districts of Maharashtra until April 18. State Emergency Operations Centre argue citizens to stay indoors after hours and take necessary precautions. 

Temperature likely to soar as Hot and humid conditions are expected in central Maharashtra between April 15 and 18, a similar weather pattern in Marathwada from April 16 to 18, in Vidarbha between April 15 and 19 and in the Konkan region between April 15 and 17 at isolated places.

In its forecast bulletin on Wednesday, IMD predicted hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets of Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg on April 15 and 16. 

Meanwhile, a heat wave in isolated pockets of Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar, Satara, Sangli, Sholapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Dharashiv, Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal for the next several days.

However, the heatwave conditions are likely to get better from April 18 as the Met department has predicted light rain and thunderstorms are likely to prevail across parts of Maharashtra.

IMD said that there will be a rise in the maximum temperature by 1-2 degrees Celcius over parts of Maharashtra till April 18 and a gradual fall by 2-3 degrees thereafter. The weather department predicted that the temperature is likely to remain 42 and 44 degrees Celcius over parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada till April 18.
