HSRP Number Plate Installation Dispute Erupts in Ichalkaranji, Vehicle Owners, Centers Clash Over Extra Costs
As per the government mandate, all vehicles manufactured before 2019 must be fitted with HSRP number plates. Vehicle owners are required to book appointments online for the same. A new controversy has sparked in Ichalkaranji, as multiple two-wheeler showrooms began to install High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).The daily disputes are arising between owners and attachments center over who should bear the additional costs involved in fitting HSRP plates on older vehicles. As a result, many major two-wheeler showrooms have removed their name from the online list of authorized HSRP connection centers. The local administration has taken serious note of the situation and is demanding an official explanation from the involved parties. While the standard fee for HSRP installation is Rs 531 paid online by the vehicle owner on reaching the attachment center, the experience is often different. For older vehicles, an additional bracket or mold is often needed to fit the new number plate. Center operators are asking customers to cover this extra cost. However, many customers are refusing, insisting that the Rs 531 should include all expenses.
One customer remarked, “We’ve paid Rs 531 as per the rules. That should cover everything. If there’s a problem, it’s for the authorities to fix, not us.” Each attachment center receives only Rs 50 per installation. According to operators, if brackets or additional materials are required, the cost may increase by Rs 100 to Rs 250. This lack of clarity on who should bear this cost has led to daily arguments at centers. Consequently, some have chosen to withdraw from the online registration system to avoid further conflict.
This withdrawal has left many vehicle owners in limbo, with limited options for timely installation. There is growing demand for the government to intervene and provide a clear directive to resolve the confusion. While Rs 531 was paid online along with the number plate attachment, the Borgave TVS connection center is asking for an additional Rs 100 to 200, excluding the cost of the bracket. If they do not provide it, customers are being given rude answers, saying that they cannot afford the attachment. - Umesh Dudhane, Customer
Out of Rs 531 for attaching a new number plate, only Rs 50 is paid to the attachment center. As there is a dispute over who will pay for the bracket or other materials, we have removed our center's name from the online registration list two days ago. - Raju Borgave, Attachment Center Operator
