Kolhapur: A minor boy dies after coming into contact with a loose electrical socket connected to a table fan during a housewarming function in Ichalkaranji on Friday, May 15 afternoon. The deceased identified as Vihan Shaikh, a Kagal resident about to enter Std V, died after accidentally touching a live socket at a relative's house, where he had attended a function with his parents.

Police report that the incident occurred after lunch when Vihan went to get water and unknowingly stepped on a loose socket connected to the main power supply, resulting in electrocution from the exposed wire. Police have initiated an inquiry, and likely to book the owner of the house for negligence.

In separate incident, a 33-year-old lineman died after being electrocuted while carrying out repair work at a village. This incident occurred on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 around 7pm.

The incident occurred at the Ratsar power substation in the Khejuri area. According to police, Hriday Narayan Yadav, deployed on a contractual basis, had taken a proper shutdown from the substation around 7 pm on Wednesday and began fixing a power fault in the village.
