Maharashtra Plans $50 Billion Media-Tech and AVGC Hubs in Mumbai and Pune to Boost Jobs and Innovation

The Maharashtra government has taken significant steps to promote information technology, digital media, and emerging startups across the state. Devendra Fadnavis announced that a new “Growth Hub” will be developed in Pune on the lines of infrastructure initiatives in Mumbai. The state also plans to launch an ambitious project to establish media-tech and AVGC centres with a combined investment potential of nearly 50 billion dollars across both cities. AVGC refers to animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics industries. Through these major initiatives, the government aims to generate more than three million employment opportunities while strengthening Maharashtra’s position as a leading destination for technology, media innovation, and digital entrepreneurship.

Mumbai and Pune are rapidly emerging as two of India’s most influential centres for IT services, digital media development, and startup ecosystems. Considering this strong growth trajectory, the state government intends to develop world-class media-tech and AVGC hubs in both cities. These facilities are expected to significantly boost industries such as animation, visual effects production, gaming development, and comics creation. By establishing a strong ecosystem, the government hopes to attract global companies and investors to Maharashtra. The initiative is also designed to encourage collaboration between creative professionals, technology experts, and international studios, enabling the state to compete with leading global digital media destinations.

The proposed Growth Hub in Pune will serve as a comprehensive platform bringing together startups, IT firms, research organisations, and businesses operating in advanced technology sectors.
