Mumbai: BMC to conduct special vaccination drive for students going abroad for education

Preference will now be given to students going abroad for higher education. Mumbai Municipal Corporation has issued a revised statement in this regard late last night. This has been a great relief to the students and their parents going for higher education from Mumbai.

In this context, yesterday evening Shiv Sena spokesperson and Ward No. 7 corporator Sheetal Mhatre had demanded that the Municipal Commissioner should make special arrangements for vaccination for students going abroad. Mumbai Consumer Panchayat President Adv Shirish Deshpande also On May 9, he had written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding that a priority vaccination campaign be launched for students from Maharashtra going abroad for higher education.

Maharashtra miniter Aaditya Thackeray has informed that students who are going abroad for education from Mumbai city, will get Corona vaccination on a priority basis.

The minister took to Twitter and wrote,"For students who have received confirmation of admission in universities abroad & require vaccines for the same, the  @mybmc has arranged free, walk in vaccination this coming Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (31st May, 1st, 2nd June) at 3 centres- Rajawadi, Cooper & Kasturba. The students need to carry I- 20 or DS- 160 form/ verified confirmation letter to concerned foreign universities, along with personal id documents. This admission and vaccine affecting careers, we are duty bound to vaccinate them in the required time.

I will also be speaking to other municipal corporations across Maharashtra to implement the same for students in and around those cities with confirmation letters for universities abroad, to implement the same. The numbers are small, but their career opportunities can’t be missed"

He further wrote,"We have received multiple queries with regard to the gap between the two doses and the scheduled/ possible departure of students for overseas universities. Since it is a medical advice,  Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will discuss with the concerned authorities for the same to assist the students.

Pune city on saturday also decided to vaccinate the students who are going abroad for education from Pune city. The vaccination of such students will be done on a priority basis, informed Mayor Murlidhar Mohol.
