Mumbai-Goa Highway Traffic Update: Container Gets Stuck on Jagbudi Bridge in Khed After Crashing Into Divider

A major accident at Khed Jagbudi Bridge on the Mumbai-Goa Highway on Sunday, April 12. The driver of a speeding cargo container lost control, resulting in the vehicle crashing into a divider and hanging between two bridges. The container, which was travelling from Goa to Mumbai, was prevented from plunging nearly 200 feet into the Jagbudi riverbed after it got wedged within the bridge structure. Given the severity of the incident, officials said a major tragedy was avoided.

The accident occurred in the Bharne Naka area of Khed taluka. There were fears that the container could collapse at any moment as it remained stuck between the old and new bridges. Upon receiving information, the highway police rushed to the spot.

A rescue operation was launched on a war footing using two heavy cranes. After nearly one and a half hours of effort, the container was safely removed. The driver sustained minor injuries, and no other casualties were reported. The accident brought Mumbai-bound traffic to a complete halt. With one lane closed during the rescue operation, long queues of vehicles formed on both sides of the bridge. Traffic was gradually restored later.
