A tragic road accident claimed one life and left four others injured after a speeding car collided with a stationary trailer truck in the early hours of Tuesday on the Mumbai–Nashik Highway near Kalwa. Among the injured, three individuals are reported to be in critical condition, while one sustained minor injuries. According to the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation, the incident occurred at approximately 3:55 am near the Nayara petrol pump at Kharegaon Toll Naka on the Mumbai-bound lane in Thane, prompting immediate concern and emergency response from local authorities.
Initial findings suggest that the driver of a Hyundai Aura, identified as 26-year-old Deepak Patekar, lost control of the vehicle before crashing into a parked Ashok Leyland trailer ahead. The collision was extremely forceful, leaving the car severely damaged and trapping the driver inside. Emergency teams, including the fire brigade, disaster management personnel, Kalwa police, and traffic officials, quickly arrived at the scene. Using specialised rescue tools, they managed to pull the driver out of the wreckage and rushed him to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, where doctors declared him dead due to fatal head injuries.
The four other occupants of the car, all colleagues of the deceased and residents of Dombivli East, sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident. Sujay Patil, aged 20, suffered multiple injuries to his head and body and was later transferred to a private hospital in Ghansoli after receiving primary treatment. Meanwhile, Raj Chile (21) and Sugam Jaiswal (24) were critically hurt and shifted to Jupiter Hospital for advanced medical care. Another passenger, Snehal Bhusekar (23), sustained comparatively minor injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kalwa.
Officials revealed that all five individuals worked at Ashar IT Park in Wagle Estate and were returning home to Dombivli when the accident took place. The collision led to a temporary slowdown in traffic on the busy Mumbai–Nashik Highway as authorities worked to manage the situation. A crane was deployed to remove the wrecked vehicle and clear the road, eventually restoring traffic flow. Meanwhile, the Kalwa Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and any possible negligence involved.
