Woman Beaten to Death Over Suspicion of Mobile Theft in Pune

In a disturbing turn of events in Pune's Budhwar Peth area, a woman lost her life after being brutally assaulted by two men on suspicion of mobile phone theft. According to police reports, the incident occurred around 8:30 am on Monday near Shrinath Talkies. The victim, Varsha Thorat, aged 35, was a homeless individual battling alcohol addiction. The accused, Abdul Sayyad, who owned a hand cart, harbored suspicions against Thorat regarding his lost mobile phone.

Sayyad, accompanied by his associate Gaurav Chowgule, confronted Thorat about the alleged theft. The situation escalated into violence as Sayyad and Chowgule began assaulting Thorat with a stick. Despite Thorat's confession of stealing the phone, amidst the assault, the attackers persisted, ignoring bystanders' attempts to intervene and resolve the issue, as claimed by an eyewitness. The relentless beating resulted in severe head injuries, causing Thorat to collapse unconscious on the ground. Local residents rushed Thorat to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel pronounced her dead upon arrival. The Faraskhana police have since apprehended the accused, and charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
