The investigation into the stabbing attack on security guards at a construction site in the jurisdiction of Nayangar Police Station under the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar Police Commissionerate has now been transferred to the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). The decision was taken considering the seriousness of the incident, giving the case a new twist.
According to police, the incident took place around 4 am on Sunday at Asmita Grand Mansion, an under-construction building in Mira Road East. An unidentified man allegedly attacked two security guards — Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Ramesh Sen — with a knife.
Both guards sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police said their condition is stable.
Soon after receiving information about the attack, Nayangar Police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Based on CCTV footage from the area, police identified the accused as Jaib Zuber Ansari (31) and detained him within one-and-a-half hours of the incident.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Senior officials said the case has now been transferred to the ATS to ascertain the exact motive behind the attack and whether the accused has links to any larger conspiracy. The ATS has begun questioning the accused and is probing the matter from multiple angles.
