Mumbai Airport: SpiceJet Delays, Cancellations Leave Passengers Stranded Overnight
Hundreds of passengers booked on late-night SpiceJet flights from Mumbai to Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Delhi endured a frustrating, sleepless ordeal between Wednesday night and early Thursday as multiple services were delayed or cancelled. One of the worst affected was a red-eye Mumbai–Bengaluru flight that departed nearly nine hours behind schedule. Flights to Delhi and Bengaluru were first delayed and later cancelled, while a daytime service to Gorakhpur was also scrapped. Meanwhile, a late-night Ahmedabad flight departed around three hours late. SpiceJet flight SG 874, scheduled for 1.55 am departure, saw passengers arriving around midnight, only to face prolonged uncertainty.
"What the hell is wrong with SpiceJet flights! Been waiting at Mumbai T1 airport since yesterday midnight (sic) and the flight keeps on being delayed!!," said a post put on X at 8.50 am by Shivangi Pathak, a passenger. She shared a photograph of her boarding pass showing a revised departure time of 7.45 am. The image also captured stranded passengers waiting near the departure gate, with a coach bus visible outside. Several social media posts showed travellers arguing with airline staff. Complaints about SpiceJet delays are frequently seen online, and Bengaluru-bound passengers were among many forced to spend the night at the airport.

On Thursday morning, Seemant Nuniwala posted:"Worst experience with @flyspicejet. SG 164 cancelled after hours of delay, zero support at airport, broken refund link." She referred to the Mumbai–Delhi 11.15 pm flight that was eventually cancelled and said she spent Rs 15,000 on a new ticket without assistance. Other affected services included SG 880 to Ahmedabad and SG 696, which departed hours late. SpiceJet cited operational issues, aircraft grounding, weather disruptions and crew duty limits. Data showed poor on-time performance, with only 43% punctuality overall and just 29% at Mumbai, affecting thousands of passengers.
