An 18-year-old youth lost his life after being run over by a BEST bus in Worli. The deceased has been identified as Adnan Ijaz Sheikh. Following the incident, the N.M. Joshi Marg Police have registered a case of negligence against the BEST bus driver Ajit Balu Khot.
The accident occurred on Wednesday at around 7.15 pm near Rakhangi Chowk on Dr. E. Moses Road, close to the Christian Cemetery crematorium in Worli. The complainant, Laxmi Yellappa Golhar alias Adiba Ejaz Sheikh, works as a domestic help and currently resides at Gandhinagar, Worli. She had a love marriage with Ejaz Mohammad Putan Sheikh in 2006. As she wished to continue following Hindu customs after marriage, she did not change her name in any official documents.
Adnan, her 18-year-old son, was studying First Year Commerce at Bhavan’s College, Girgaon. Due to the family’s weak financial condition, he was working part-time at a flex printing shop owned by Ketan Papan to support the household. On Wednesday afternoon at around 2 pm, Adnan had left home for work as usual.
At about 7.15 pm, while returning on his motorcycle near the Christian Cemetery area, a BEST bus rammed into his bike. The impact caused the motorcycle to skid, throwing Adnan onto the road. He came under the bus wheel and sustained critical injuries. Local residents rushed him to Nair Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Upon receiving information, the N.M. Joshi Marg Police reached the spot and began an investigation. It was found that after the accident, the bus driver Ajit Khot himself had taken the injured Adnan to Nair Hospital. However, Adnan had already succumbed to injuries caused by being crushed under the bus wheel.
Based on the complaint filed by Laxmi Golhar, the police have registered a case against the BEST driver Ajit Khot for rash and negligent driving leading to the death of a youth. Further investigation is underway.
