Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to land in Mumbai on February 27 as part of his official trip to India, which will continue until March 2. During this visit, he will also travel to New Delhi for a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders are expected to deliberate on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding economic collaboration. Carney’s trip assumes significance as it comes at a sensitive time when New Delhi and Ottawa are attempting to restore diplomatic engagement after relations suffered a major setback in June 2023.

According to an official statement, Carney will spend two days in Mumbai engaging with leaders from business and finance. His itinerary includes separate meetings with Indian and Canadian chief executives, prominent industry representatives, financial specialists, innovators, and members of the academic community. He is also expected to interact with representatives of Canadian pension funds operating in India. These discussions aim to explore investment opportunities, deepen commercial partnerships, and enhance cooperation across emerging sectors, reinforcing economic linkages between the two nations during his stay in the financial capital.

Following his engagements in Mumbai, Carney will arrive in New Delhi on March 1. On March 2, he and Prime Minister Modi will hold delegation-level discussions at Hyderabad House. The leaders are set to assess advancements under the India-Canada Strategic Partnership, drawing upon their earlier interactions in Kananaskis in June 2025 and Johannesburg in November 2025. Their talks will cover progress made in multiple domains and identify avenues for further collaboration across shared priorities.

The discussions are expected to focus on crucial areas such as trade and investment, energy security, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research, innovation, and stronger people-to-people connections. Both leaders will also exchange perspectives on regional and international developments of mutual concern. Later, they will participate in the India–Canada CEOs Forum, aimed at encouraging corporate dialogue and fostering new partnerships. The visit takes place against the backdrop of strained ties following the June 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia and subsequent diplomatic tensions.
