A family of four died in a suspected food poisoning incident in Mumbai, police said. The deceased have been identified as a 40-year-old man, his 35-year-old wife, and their two daughters aged 16 and 13 years.

According to preliminary information, the family had dinner along with five relatives at around 10.30 pm on April 25. After the meal, the relatives returned to their respective homes.

Later in the night, between 1 am and 1.30 am, the four family members reportedly consumed watermelon at home.

On Saturday morning between 5.30 am and 6 am, all four developed symptoms of vomiting and loose motions. They were initially treated by the family doctor and later referred to Sir JJ Hospital for further medical attention.

Hospital sources said the younger daughter died at around 10.15 am, while the husband succumbed at around 10.30 pm on Saturday. The wife and elder daughter also died during treatment.

Post-mortem examinations have been conducted on the bodies. Doctors have reserved their opinion pending histopathology reports.
