Kalyan: Fire at Two Dumping Sites Sparks Safety Concerns, Probe On (Watch Video)
Kalyan: A massive fire broke out at the Aadharwadi and Umbarde dumping grounds in Kalyan West, creating a thick layer of smoke in surrounding areas on Sunday April 26, 2026. As per the initial report, the fire erupted at both dumping sites almost at the same time and the intensity of fire created a concern of safety.
Responding to alerts, the fire brigade deployed four fire engines, two each to Aadharwadi and Umbarde, to combat the fires. Firefighters are continuously spraying water to control the flames. Accumulated waste at both dumping grounds likely fueled the fire's rapid spread, complicating containment. Residents in nearby areas reported significant discomfort and breathing difficulties due to the heavy smoke. Thick black fumes enveloped Kalyan West, creating a haze and raising health concerns, particularly for children and the elderly.
