A shocking and inhuman incident has come to light from the Imamwada area of South Mumbai, where a 10-year-old minor boy was allegedly stripped naked, tied to an iron grill and brutally assaulted on suspicion of stealing kites. The accused also reportedly burned the child’s body with a lighter, leaving the neighbourhood in outrage.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, JJ Marg police have registered an FIR against two accused, identified as Mukim Amir Hasan Khan (58) and Salman Abdul Majid Hawa (30). Police have launched a search operation to trace the accused.
According to police officials, the 40-year-old complainant earns her livelihood by selling vegetables and supports her family. Her 10-year-old son does not attend school and assists her in her daily work. As per the complaint, in the early hours of January 14, 2026, around 3 am, the child had stepped out of the house. Later in the morning, he was found sleeping on the terrace of the house.
At around 11 am the same day, a local resident informed the complainant and her husband that their son had been assaulted at a kite-selling stall located in front of Kamal Khan Chawl on Imamwada Road. When the parents questioned the child, he revealed that he was attempting to steal kites when shop owner Mukim Khan caught hold of him.
The complainant alleged that Mukim Khan, along with two other persons working at the stall, forcibly removed the child’s clothes, tied both his hands with a yellow rope to an iron grill and beat him mercilessly. It is further alleged that Salman Hawa later questioned the child over the theft and burnt his chest and the left side of his back using a lighter.
An FIR has been registered against Mukim Amir Hasan Khan, Salman Abdul Majid Hawa and two unidentified persons under relevant sections of the law. Following the incident, tension prevails in the area. Several social organisations have strongly condemned the brutal assault on the minor and demanded strict action against the accused, along with justice for the child.
Police are investigating the case.
