Mumbai Local Train Scam: 22-Year-Old Uses Forged Pass, Case Filed in Kurla
The Kurla Railway Police have registered a case against a 22-year-old youth for allegedly travelling using a forged three-month general compartment railway pass on the Thane–Vikhroli route. The Accused, identified as Rishi Gori, was detained for questioning and later released after being served a notice.
According to police officials, the fraud came to light during a routine ticket inspection at Vikhroli railway station on April 1 around 11 am. Ticket examiner Harshad Subhash Wadekar, a resident of Dadar, was checking passengers’ tickets and passes when he asked Gori to produce his documents.
Gori presented a railway pass for the Ghatkopar–Thane route. However, during verification, Wadekar noticed discrepancies — while the UFV (Unique Form Value) number on genuine passes contains eight digits, the pass shown by Gori had a nine-digit number, raising suspicion. Wadekar then clicked a photo of the pass and shared it with colleagues on a ticket-checking WhatsApp group.
His colleague Santosh Sawant confirmed that the pass was fake. With the help of railway police present at the station, Gori was taken into custody and brought to Kurla Railway Police Station for further inquiry.
During interrogation, Gori initially claimed that the forged pass had been given to him by a friend named Shubham. However, further investigation revealed that the friend had no involvement in the case. Police later found that Gori’s original pass had expired on March 22, after which he allegedly created the fake pass himself on March 23 to avoid spending money on a new one.
He had been travelling between Ghatkopar and Vikhroli using the bogus pass since then. Based on the findings, a case has been registered against him under cheating and relevant sections of the IT Act for possessing and using a forged railway pass.
Senior Police Inspector Sambhaji Yadav confirmed that Gori was issued a notice and released in connection with the case.
