Mumbai Local Train Update: Western Railway to Run 12 Additional AC and 3 Non-AC Services from February 19
In a major boost to suburban passenger services, Western Railway will introduce 12 additional AC local train services and 3 new non-AC services on the Mumbai suburban network with effect from February 19, 2026.
Keeping in view the growing popularity of air-conditioned travel and the continued need for affordable options for daily commuters, Western Railway aims to provide a balanced and inclusive commuting experience. The increase in services is expected to help reduce overcrowding and enhance overall passenger comfort.
According to a press release issued by the Public Relations Department of Western Railway, out of the 12 AC services being introduced, 11 will replace existing non-AC services, while one will be operated as a new AC service. Additionally, three new non-AC services will also be introduced.
With this augmentation, the total number of AC services will increase from 121 to 133. The overall number of suburban local services on the Western Railway network will rise from 1,410 to 1,414. On Saturdays and Sundays, the number of AC services will go up significantly from 77 to 106, providing greater capacity and comfort for weekend commuters.
Furthermore, one slow local service currently operating between Bhayander and Bandra will now originate from Virar, offering improved connectivity and added convenience to passengers.
This initiative reflects Western Railway’s continued commitment to providing safer, efficient and passenger-friendly suburban rail services, often referred to as Mumbai’s lifeline.
