A man posing as the son of a former Member of Parliament from Gujarat allegedly cheated a businessman and several others of lakhs of rupees by promising to double their investments in six months through share market deals. The Khar Police have registered a case against the accused, identified as Vicky Vajubhai Barejia alias Vicky Prajapati, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation.

According to police, the accused is suspected to have committed similar frauds in Mumbai as well as Gujarat. Authorities are now probing the full extent of the scam.

The complainant, Swaranjitsingh, a businessman residing in Khar with his family, runs a private company. He came in contact with Vicky Barejia in March last year. During their initial meetings, the accused claimed to be a resident of Gujarat and said his father was a former MP. To gain trust, he allegedly showed an identity card claiming parliamentary links.

He also claimed to have close connections with senior IAS and IPS officers and Central Government officials, following which the complainant developed confidence in him.

In April 2025, the accused visited Mumbai and advised the complainant to invest in shares, assuring him that the amount would be doubled within six months. He also claimed that several IAS and IPS officers were investing through him.

Believing his claims, the complainant invested money in phases between April 29 and September 29, 2025. A total of Rs 41.39 lakh was allegedly transferred to the accused through cash, RTGS and NEFT transactions.

Police said the accused later returned around Rs 9.75 lakh and purchased some shares on behalf of the complainant, but subsequently stopped paying profits or returning the remaining amount.

During inquiry, it was revealed that the accused had similarly lured several others with promises of doubling their investments. One of the complainant’s friends was also allegedly cheated of Rs 5 lakh.

When victims demanded their money back, the accused allegedly threatened them with serious consequences if they approached the police.

Following the complaint, Khar Police conducted a preliminary verification and registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust. The complainant has alleged that he suffered a loss of Rs 18.69 lakh.

Police suspect more victims may come forward, which could increase the total fraud amount significantly. Authorities have appealed to anyone cheated by the accused to contact Khar Police Station.
