Mumbai Metro Line 9 Phase 1 Opens: Check Fares and Timings
The first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 9, connecting Dahisar East to Kashigaon, is set to significantly enhance travel between Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar, and Andheri. This development is expected to make commuting smoother, faster, and more economical for daily passengers. With this addition, residents in suburban and neighbouring regions will gain improved access to key business and residential hubs. The new stretch is part of the broader metro expansion aimed at reducing travel time and offering a reliable alternative to road transport. Officials believe this phase will play a crucial role in easing movement across some of the city’s most congested corridors.
According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the introduction of Metro Line 9 will also bring operational changes to existing lines. Metro Lines 2A and 7 will function as separate corridors, while Line 7 will be linked with Line 9 for seamless connectivity. This integration will allow passengers to travel directly from Gundavli in Andheri East to Mira-Bhayandar, extending up to Kashigaon. The improved network structure is expected to eliminate the need for multiple interchanges, making journeys more convenient. Authorities say this alignment will strengthen connectivity across the western suburbs and nearby regions.
The distance between Gundavli and Kashigaon is roughly 20 kilometres, with travel time often stretching to nearly an hour due to traffic congestion. Currently, commuters rely on cabs and autorickshaws, with fares ranging from Rs 350 to Rs 400 or more during peak periods.
In comparison, metro fares are significantly lower across routes. A single journey from Gundavli to Kashigaon will cost Rs 50. Travel up to Pandurang Wadi, and Miragaon is priced at Rs 40. Meanwhile, the fare between Dahisar East and Kashigaon is set at Rs 20, and commuters travelling between Pandurangwadi and Kashigaon will pay just Rs 10.

The integrated Metro Lines 7 and 9 corridor, stretching nearly 19.79 kilometres between Gundavli and Kashigaon, will operate daily from 5:50 am to 11 pm. During peak hours, trains will arrive at intervals of less than six minutes, ensuring minimal waiting time for commuters. As per official information, 276 services will run on weekdays, while 223 services are scheduled for Saturdays and 205 for Sundays. The metro line will be opened to the public starting April 8, marking a significant milestone in the city’s transport infrastructure development and offering a dependable travel alternative.
For years, residents in the Mira-Bhayandar region have awaited improved public transport options, as the area has largely depended on road-based travel. This reliance often results in heavy traffic congestion and delays, particularly during rush hours. The introduction of Metro Line 9 is expected to address these challenges by providing a faster, more efficient mode of transport. By reducing dependence on private vehicles and shared transport, the metro is likely to ease pressure on major roads and improve overall traffic conditions in the surrounding areas.
Dahisar East is poised to become a crucial interchange point within Mumbai’s expanding metro network. Rather than serving as just another station, it will connect Metro Lines 9, 7, and 2A, making it an important transit hub for commuters. Passengers travelling from Gundavli to Kashigaon will benefit from a direct, uninterrupted journey. However, those heading towards Andheri West or Dhanukarwadi will need to change trains at Dahisar East. This interchange facility is expected to streamline passenger movement and enhance connectivity across multiple routes within the city.
