The rooftop area at Sky City Mall in Borivali, popular for its open-air setting and sweeping city views, has been temporarily shut to visitors due to growing concerns over overcrowding. While the mall’s regular shopping, dining, and entertainment operations continue without interruption, entry to the rooftop has been put on hold. The decision comes after a sharp rise in visitor numbers, particularly during evenings and weekends, when the space became a major draw. The increasing footfall reportedly exceeded comfortable limits, prompting worries related to visitor safety and effective crowd control.

Prior to the closure, the mall management had introduced a new access rule to manage the heavy rush. Under the revised system, entry to the rooftop was to be allowed only for guests holding confirmed reservations at rooftop restaurants. The measure was intended to regulate the number of visitors and improve the overall experience. In an official statement, the management acknowledged the strong public response and stressed the importance of maintaining safety, service standards, and comfort. It said reservation-based access would help reduce congestion and allow smoother movement within the open-air zone.

In a statement, it wrote, "We are grateful to the overwhelming response and enthusiasm The Rooftop at Sky City Mall has received. Our priority is to ensure a comfortable and high quality experience for our customers. To maintain these standards and streamline visits, we have introduced exclusive access to The Rooftop at Sky City Mall. Starting 5th February 2026, The Rooftop will be open only to customers who have a confirmed restaurant reservation. We believe this approach will help us offer an exceptional and memorable experience.”

Despite the temporary shutdown of the rooftop, all other sections of Sky City Mall remain fully functional. Officials are expected to reassess crowd management strategies before reopening the space under the new controlled entry system. Known for its illuminated flooring, open design, and social-media-friendly appeal, the rooftop quickly became a favourite among visitors. However, the consistently large crowds appear to have led to this precautionary closure, with authorities aiming to address safety concerns before allowing public access again.
