Mumbai: Trainee Policeman Dies by Suicide at Kalina Training Centre; Family Alleges Harassment by Girlfriend’s Parents

The death of a trainee police personnel at the Kalina Police Training Centre in Santacruz East has raised several questions. While the incident is initially being treated as a case of suicide, a suicide note recovered from the spot has added a serious dimension to the matter. The family of the deceased has accused a young woman and her parents of harassment and threats that allegedly drove him to take the extreme step. Following the recovery of the note, Vakola Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide and launched an investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Bhaiyasab Maruti Whavle (32), a resident of Khadgaon village in Gangakhed taluka of Parbhani district in Maharashtra. He had recently been recruited as a driver in the Mumbai Police and was undergoing training at the Kalina Police Training Centre. According to family members, Whavle was the primary breadwinner of the family, and his recruitment had brought a sense of relief and happiness at home.

According to the family, they received a phone call from the training centre on the morning of March 15, 2026, informing them that Bhaiyasab had met with an accident and asking them to come to Mumbai immediately. The anxious family rushed to the city, but the information they later received at Vakola Police Station left them shocked. Police informed them that Bhaiyasab had died by suicide.

A suicide note was recovered from the spot, which the family claims is written in Bhaiyasab’s handwriting. In the note, he allegedly held a woman named Divya and her parents responsible for his death. According to the contents of the note, Bhaiyasab and Divya had been in a relationship for the past one-and-a-half years and wanted to get married. However, when the woman’s family came to know about the relationship, they strongly opposed it.

The note further alleges that the woman’s father had called Bhaiyasab and threatened to kill him if he continued to pursue their daughter, and also warned that his job would be ruined. The deceased also claimed that his family members were being repeatedly threatened. Serious allegations have also been made against the woman’s mother.

In the note, Bhaiyasab reportedly wrote that he was mentally shattered due to the continuous threats and pressure, which ultimately pushed him to take the drastic step.

The deceased’s father, Bhimrao Whavle, told the police that his son had received repeated threatening calls between 12:30 am and 9:45 am on March 15. The incident reportedly took place in the room at the Kalina training centre where Bhaiyasab was staying.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Officials said the suicide note will be sent for forensic examination and the Call Detail Records (CDR) of the involved persons are also being analysed. Investigators are also verifying whether the accused had indeed made repeated threats.

Police stated that the probe will consider all aspects of the case and strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
