Mumbai Weather Update: Temperatures to Rise Across City; Thane Likely to Touch 39 Degrees Celsius
Temperatures are expected to rise across Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert from May 6 onwards. Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius on Monday.
The weather department has warned of hot and humid conditions across the MMR. Thane is expected to witness a further rise in temperature, with the mercury likely to touch 39 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

According to the IMD’s Colaba observatory, minimum temperatures in Santacruz and Colaba on May 4 hovered between 28 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius.
The IMD said Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri are likely to witness a spike in temperatures between May 6 and May 8. Suburban Mumbai is expected to record temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius, while Thane may see temperatures ranging between 38 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius.
In coastal regions such as Konkan, a heatwave is generally declared when temperatures cross 37 degrees Celsius or remain at least 4.5 degrees Celsius above normal for consecutive days. A severe heatwave is declared when the deviation exceeds 6.5 degrees Celsius.
