As Mumbai grapples with an intense heatwave, the city’s power demand is expected to rise significantly this summer, with estimates reaching a staggering 4,500 MW, nearly 900 MW higher than last year's usage. As the temperature in Mumbai is rising, the distribution companies that supply electricity to over 49 lakh Mumbaikars are rushing to make additional supply arrangements. Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST) said that there would be an increase in demand.

From March 1, the power demand is hovering around 3,000 - 3,500 MW. The power companies are expecting this number to increase. They are predicting this upcoming demand with the help of AI Tools and consumption patterns during the summer.

BEST supplies power to 10.5 lakh customers in Mumbai. Hindustan Times reported that BEST stated that demand is expected to reach 1,010 MW this summer. Last year, they supplied 950 MW during the summer.

The data shows that currently, their daily demand is 730 MW, and it soars between 12 PM and 4 PM. Hindustan Times reported that BEST said it would produce additional power whenever the city needs it from the open market.
