In a significant move aimed at supporting veteran artists, Maharashtra BJP President Ravindra Chavan has announced that he is willing to donate one acre of his land for their welfare, while also assuring steps to address their long-standing issues.
The announcement came at an event held in Mumbai, where the work of the Cine Artists Welfare Trust (CAWT) was highlighted. Praising the trust’s efforts, Chavan pointed out that many senior artists face neglect and financial hardship once their careers fade, making such initiatives crucial.
He further revealed that he is ready to offer one acre of his land located in Kesari, Sawantwadi in the Konkan region for the trust’s use.
The CAWT has been supported by several stalwarts of Hindi cinema over the years, including Dilip Kumar, Sunil Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty, Johnny Lever, Asha Parekh, Amrish Puri, Amjad Khan, Chandrashekhar Vaidya and Dara Singh. During the event, a special plaque honouring these legends was also inaugurated by Chavan.
He noted that around 9,000 to 10,000 senior artists in the state continue to struggle with various challenges. Assuring concrete action, Chavan said he would take up the matter with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar.
The event was attended by CAWT President Priti Sapru, Secretary Sambhavna Seth, Treasurer Deepak Parashar, along with actors Rajpal Yadav, Manoj Joshi, Mukesh Rishi, Ayub Khan and actress Kunika.
This initiative not only offers tangible support to senior artists but also sends a wider message: behind the glamour of the film industry lies a reality that often goes unseen—and deserves recognition and respect.
