Mumbai Crime Branch arrested woman cricketer Farkhanda Khan, her 27-year-old brother Bazil Khan and associate Uddin Imtiyaz Wani in a sextortion case, reported news agency IANS on Thursday, April 23.
The incident came to light when a 28-year-old businessman from Colaba in south Mumbai alleged that he came in contact with her in 2024 through chats, where she allegedly initiated an explicit conversation and later demanded money.
When he refused, she threatened to leak private chats. He allegedly paid Rs 23.61 lakh in 32 transactions and later Rs 40 lakh more under threats, said police. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS and IT Act, and the investigation is underway, said Mumbai Crime Branch.
Farkhanda and her brother were arrested from a hotel in Delhi, while her accomplice Imtiaz Wani was arrested from Srinagar. The young businessman accused Farkhanda of extorting money by threatening to make their mobile chats public if the money was not paid.
The police are investigating how all these people trapped the businessman. The police are still interrogating Farkhanda, her brother and her accomplice. All eyes are on what else will come out of this investigation.
Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered at the West Region Cyber Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 308(2), 308(6), 351(2), 351(3), along with Sections 61(2) and 3(5) of the IT Act. Further investigation is underway.
