'She Threw A Water Bottle': BJP Leader Girish Mahajan On Viral Worli Woman Confrontation Video

A viral video of a woman confronting Maharashtra Minister and BJP leader Girish Mahajan over a traffic jam in Mumbai's Worli area drew political reactions, even from the opposition. However, the woman's identity remained unknown. The incident occurred during a women’s rally organised by the BJP in Worli, led by Minister Girish Mahajan on Tuesday, April 21. The protest rally led to heavy traffic congestion, as several vehicles were stranded on the lane.

In the video, a woman seen stuck in traffic approaches the minister and expresses her anger over the vehicular traffic on the road and argues to clear the lane and insist to move to the open ground adjacent to the road in the area. Following the incident, opposition parties criticised the BJP over the inconvenience caused to the public.

Girish Mahajan Responded to Viral Video

Responding to the incident, which is now circulating online, Mahajan said the woman’s reaction was due to frustration caused by traffic congestion.

“The Woman was upset because of the traffic, which is why she reacted. We had taken proper permission for the protest march. I understand that it caused inconvenience, and I apologise for that. However, the language used was not appropriate,” BJP's Mahajan said.

He added that large rallies often lead to traffic disruptions. “Whenever there are big marches, traffic jams are unavoidable. All political parties organise such rallies. People face inconvenience during that time, and we acknowledge that,” he added.

Mahajan On Woman Confrontation

Mahajan said the woman could have raised her complaint through proper channels. He also alleged that she used inappropriate language and threw a water bottle during the confrontation. “The anger is understandable, but the way it was expressed was not appropriate. She could have filed a complaint with the police,” he said.

Mahajan said, "There was no force used, and the women police did not act harshly with them. I had also instructed the police not to stop them. Some of our women supporters did get upset because of the kind of language that was being used, as they felt hurt since the protest was organised for women. I explained the situation to them as well..."

The minister said the rally was organised with due permission and a planned route. However, he acknowledged that people were inconvenienced. “We will take more care in future. Such situations arise during large gatherings, but we will try to minimise inconvenience to the public,” he added.
