Voters’ Names Omitted in Strongholds of Shiv Sena UBT, MNS and Congress in Mumbai, Says Sanjay Raut
MP and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut alleged that voters' names were cut in strong areas of Shiv Sena UBT, MNS and Congress in Mumbai during the in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2026.
"The voting pattern that has been going on in a city like Mumbai is a serious matter. Names of thousands of people, who have even voted in the Assembly elections, are missing in areas where Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS or Congres." Raut said.

"The EVM machine does not work properly... The Election Commission is not ready to listen to us. Yesterday, a meeting was held between the senior BJP leaders and the Election Commission staff, why? The Code of Conduct is still in place," he added.

He also said, "The exit polls arrived even before the voting percentage... The BJP started celebrating its victory... We have assured the people not to be afraid..."
Meanwhile, Mumbai recorded a voter turnout of 52.94% in BMC elections 2026, lower than the previous civic polls held in 2017 in Mumbai. Polling was held on Thursday, January 15, across 227 wards of BMC. The city has a total of 1.03 crore registered voters. Voting took place at 10,231 polling stations.
Several voters faced problems as their names were not found in the voters' list of BMC at the polling booths. Seeing this inconvenience, Mumbaikars left polling booths without voting, while others had claimed a sketch pen was used instead of edible ink on their fingers. Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) glitches were also reported from several wards and were later changed by the election officials.
