Around 140 resident doctors of the Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital suddenly stopped work and staged dharna after discontinuing work on Wednesday. This affected services related to Covid in Mayo, GMCH and other hospitals as they are all deployed on Covid duty.

According to the information received, 30 doctors were posted in Mayo, 11 in GMCH, 40 in Shalinitai Meghe Hospital, 40 in swab collection and the remaining resident doctors have been posted in other centers on the orders of the district magistrate. The Covid patients had to face a lot of issues due to student strike of doctors, as they were posted in Covid wards.

They did not return to work until the news was being written. Resident doctors allege that for the last 6 months, they are continuously providing services in Covid centers. This has started affecting their academic activities. There duty hours are not fixed and they have not been paid stipend for the last four months and they are being given less stipend.

President of the PG Association of Ayurvedic College, Sumit Marathe said that they have been serving the Covid patients from the last six months. But they are not being paid attention at all. If someone is infected with Covid, his or her stipend is being cut. We will not return to work until we get a written confirmation that the stipend will not be cut and other demands are not met.
