Citizens give weird reasons for obtaining e-pass

The government has provided e-pass facility during lockdown period so that those concerned can go out of the city for urgent work. However, some citizens demanded e-pass for giving frivolous reasons.

Some needed an e-pass for their honeymoon, some wanted to go to a hill-station, some were bored of staying in the village, so they wanted to go out of town and wanted e-pass.

The reasons for e-pass were totally weird and hence 65 to 70 per cent e-pass applications were rejected. The government announced lockdown to curb the increased menace of corona and everyone was confined to their homes and cities.

However, those who had urgent work. They were allowed to go by obtaining e-pass. A large number of citizens applied online to get this pass. In May, 25 to 30 per cent of the applicants gave a reason for going to a funeral or visiting relatives in a hospital, while some wanted e-pass to go on a honeymoon.

49,668 applications in 38 days

Between April 23 and May 31, 49,668 people applied for e-passes in Nagpur. As many as 16,335 passes were issued and 33,333 applications were rejected as the documents attached to the application and the reasons were similar and copied.

5,844 passes sanctioned for departure from Maharashtra

There were large number of people seeking permission to leave Maharashtra in the approved applications. E-passes were issued to 5,844 people for given e-pass.

Most wrote similar reasons!

Most of the applicants were giving the same reasons for getting the e-pass. Authorities said that they were asking for an e-pass to visit a sick person or to go to a funeral. However, many citizens said that they are bored in the city, so they want to go out of town, and some just wanted to go to meet their relatives, so they are trying to get an e-pass, the officials said.

Many e-pass rejected

The e-pass is made available within 24 hours after applying online on the police site. After applying, the concerned gets a token. There are five constituencies in Nagpur and citizens living in those areas can apply for e-pass online through the police station or directly at the office of the DCP. The application should be accompanied by the certificate of the doctor of the village to be visited, the photo of the applicant, the address, as well as the Aadhaar card. The token is issued to the person concerned after adding this information in the prescribed form. The application is scrutinised at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police. At this time, many people were denied e-pass because they did not give compelling reason or attach the required documents.
