Mucormycosis: 62 new patients in 5 days

The second wave of corona is diminishing, but mucormycosis does not seem to come under control yet. In the last five days, 62 patients and 12 deaths have been reported. On Saturday, 10 patients and 1 death were reported.

The total number of patients has reached 1,577 and the death toll has risen to 150 and 1,071 patients have been cured. Mucormycosis is not a contagious disease. However, experts say that the number of patients with mucormycosis are increasing in those with diabetes or those who have developed diabetes during corona treatment.

On Saturday, 10 patients were admitted to government and private hospitals with mucormycosis. Notably, three of these patients are from rural area. Due to these patients, the number of patients in government hospitals has reached 547, while the number of patients in private hospitals has reached 1,030.

One patient died on Saturday at a private hospital. The death toll has risen to 115 at private and 35 at government hospitals. At present, there are 199 patients in government hospitals and 157 patients in private hospitals.

Surgery on 1,151 patients

A total of 1,151 surgeries have been performed on 353 patients in government hospitals and 798 in private hospitals so far. There were 66 surgeries in Mayo, 214 in GMCH, 47 in Government Dental College and Hospital, 54 in rural hospital and 892 in private hospitals. 271 patients from government hospitals and 800 patients from private hospitals recovered and returned home.
