Nagpur Engineer Dies by Suicide With Mother After Alleged Domestic Violence in Nandanvan
A shocking incident in Nagpur’s Nandanvan police station area created panic on Friday morning after two women were found dead inside their home. The deceased were identified as 29-year-old engineer Akanksha Brahme and her 52-year-old mother, Sangeeta Dhabale. According to police, both allegedly died by suicide after hanging themselves inside their residence. The tragic deaths of the mother and daughter have left the city deeply saddened. Family members revealed that Akanksha had married an engineer two years ago, but her life reportedly took a painful turn after the death of her unborn child two months ago. Relatives alleged that instead of supporting her emotionally, her in-laws blamed her for the tragedy and subjected her to constant mental harassment.
Police recovered two suicide notes from the house during the investigation. In her note, Sangeeta stated that she was taking the extreme step voluntarily. However, Akanksha’s final message has shocked many. She reportedly requested that her body should not be handed over to her in-laws and asked that her last rites be performed at the same place where her father was cremated. Investigators said Akanksha’s husband, Lokesh, had visited the house on Thursday night, during which an intense argument allegedly took place. After he left, the distressed mother and daughter are believed to have hanged themselves using ropes tied to an iron angle inside the house. On Friday morning, when Akanksha did not answer phone calls, Lokesh returned and allegedly spotted both bodies hanging through a window.
Relatives of the deceased have accused the in-laws of mentally torturing Akanksha and dragging her into disputes related to family property. They claimed the harassment had pushed her into severe emotional distress. Following the discovery of the bodies, the Nandanvan police registered a case of accidental death and sent both bodies for post-mortem examination. Officials said the contents of the suicide notes and statements recorded from family members are being carefully examined as part of the probe. Police have also begun the process of registering a case of abetment to suicide against those found responsible. The heartbreaking incident has once again sparked discussions around mental health, domestic pressure, and emotional abuse faced by women after marriage.
