Patient falls to death from 2nd floor at SSH

Nagpur, May 15

A 65-year-old patient, who was undergoing treatment at the urology department at Super Specialty Hospital (SSH), died after falling from the second floor. Ajni police are investigating whether the patient jumped on his own due to illness or fell by accident. The deceased Tulshiram Bangde was a resident of Hanuman Nagar.

According to the information received, Bangde had been coming to the urology department of SSH for treatment for bladder disease for the past few months. When he arrived for treatment on Friday, he was called in for a cystoscopy the next Saturday. Bangde arrived at the hospital around 9.15 am on Saturday. No one was with him. At around 9.20 am, there was a sudden loud noise as if something has fallen from above. Everyone, including the doctors, ran in that direction.

Bangde was lying on the floor in pool of blood. The doctors of the ENT department took the patient to Ward No. 4 and gave first aid to save his life. The patient had broken both limbs and chest ribs. The head was also seriously injured. From there he was immediately taken to GMCH casualty.

There, the doctors examined the patient and said that the patient had died. The incident was reported to the superintendent Dr Sudhir Gupta and Ajni police station.

Police contacted the family members from the patient’s mobile and called them. According to the family, the younger son had dropped him in the hospital. No one knows if the patient fell from the second floor or the fourth floor. Ajni police are investigating the incident; but this is the first time that any such incident has happened and it has caused lot of sensation in the hospital.

It’s dangerous to sit on the ramp

The four-story hospital has lifts as well as a ramp. If there is no electricity, the patient are being taken to the ward from ramp. The walls of the ramp are short in height. Most of the times, patients or their relatives sit on it and some sleep also. In case, if the lose balance, chances are that they may fall down. As a result, the security guards, the doctors are constantly warning patients and relatives against sitting on the ramp.
