'Reach out to common farmers thru technology'

Late Vasantrao Naik asserted that modern technology should not only be used by scientists to carry out various experiments, but also to reach out to the common farmers said former president of the Agricultural Scientific Selection Board New Delhi Dr C D Mayee.

Late Shri Vasantrao Naik Smriti Pragatisheel Shetkari Award Ceremony was held today werein Dr. Mayee was speaking. The award ceremony was jointly organised by Vasantrao Naik Foundation and Vanrai Foundation, Nagpur in association with Rotary Club of Nagpur at Dhanwate Hall.

On this occasion, the chief guest was the Dr. C. D. Mayee along with senior journalist Madhukar Bhave, MLA Neelay Naik, trustee of Vanrai Foundation Dr. Girish Gandhi and forest secretary Nilesh Khandekar were prominently present. Dheeraj Junaghare, an experimental farmer from Nagpur district, who has been succesfuly experimenting with various techniques in the cultivation of oranges and using new technology for water resource management, was felicitated with memento and cheque by the dignitaries.

Dr. Mayee lauded Dheeraj Junaghare for his outstanding work in the field of oranges and congratulated him on receiving the award. While putting light on Vasantrao Naik's agricultural work, Dr. Mayee explained how friendly he was with professors and scientists. He said that the overall revolution in agriculture today is due to the Chief Minister Vasantrao Naik while quoting plight of farmers.

Acknowledging the plight of scientists and farmers, Girish Gandhi said that professors related to agriculture were not very interested in agriculture. He told the story of how Vasantrao Naik established four agricultural universities in Maharashtra. Madhukar Bhave reminisced about Vasantrao Naik. Introducing the program, MLA Neelay Naik said that Vasantrao Naik made efforts to make Maharashtra self-sufficient and progressive. Agriculture, water, and soil were majorly focused by Naik. He also demanded that Mumbai Airport should be named after Vasantrao Naik. Dheeraj Junghare thanked everyone while replying to the greeting.

The programme was moderated by Ajay Patil, while Nilesh Khandekar made introductory remarks. Dr. Pinak Dande proposed a vote of thanks.
