Nagpur, July 4

The SPU officers may come in trouble, in the case of constable Pramod Merguwar, who committed suicide by shooting himself with a service revolver, as even though he was suffering from white fungus, he was issued a service revolver by the SPU department officers.

On the basis of the letter, Pramod had obtained the service revolver on June 28. Constable Pramod (45), a resident of Zingabai Takli, posted in the SPU on deputation from rural police, committed suicide by shooting himself with the service revolver on Saturday.

According to sources, Pramod had gone on leave on March 18. After this he got Covid. Post Covid recovery, he was diagnosed with white fungus and he had almost lost his eyesight. He committed suicide after being told by the doctors that he would not be able to see. According to sources, Pramod expressed his desire to join duty to the SPU officials claiming that he is fit to resume duty.

To resume duty, the employee has to submit a medical certificate of fitness. After this, the officer-in-charge of the SPU issues a letter of allotment to the armoury in-charge in the name of the said employee. The weapons of SPU officers and personnel are in the police armoury.

The SPU officer sent an employee with this letter to Pramod. It is said that the same employee took Pramod to the armoury on June 28.

The in-charge of the armoury handed over the revolver to Pramod on the basis of the letter of the SPU in-charge. Pramod was wearing a mask at that time. Due to this the armoury in-charge could not know the condition of his eye. Being posted in VIP security, it is an important responsibility on the SPU VI officer-personnel.

If SPUs employee who takes his own life by fraudulently acquiring the weapon, then this is a serious concern for VIP security. On the basis of which medical certificate, the SPU officials issued the arms allotment letter to Pramod, needs to be brought out after investigation.

After the incident, some SPU officials were saying that Pramod had forged documents, but there was no official confirmation and they kept avoiding away from giving any official statement on Sunday. Along with Mankapur police, top officials are also involved in finding out the truth of the case. This incident has created sensation across the state. SPU works under SID. Now all eyes are also on SID officers, as to what action they take.
