Nagpur, Feb 2

The city traffic branch has embarked upon a ‘Smart Recovery Campaign’ to recover unpaid challan dues from traffic rule violators and habitual offenders. More remarkable thing is that the department recovered `1.20 crores without any fuss and argument in 20 days.

The traffic departments was always been blamed that they do the ‘settlement’ of the traffic challans, causing loss to exchequer and filling their own pockets. Taking into consideration the allegations and putting an end to the malpractice, an e-challan system was introduced two years ago.

Accordingly, receipts of fines (e-challans) were sent to the traffic violators residence directly. But no heed was paid to them and no was paying the e-challans. As a result, number of unpaid e-challans increased significantly.

The Nagpur traffic police had unrecovered dues of `16 crores. The police department was in dilemma about the recovery of dues. Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar and deputy commissioner of Transport Sarang Awad came up with a smart solution. Accordingly, the traffic police started imposing ‘Smart nakabandi’ in various parts of the city from January 13.

A Smart Unpaid Challan App was downloaded on every traffic police mobile. Once the traffic police scans the number plate with barcode by taking a photo in the mobile app, the police will immediately know the amount of unpaid challan on it. So it was easy to recover from the driver and give the receipt to him. Out of the `16 crore outstanding, the traffic cops recovered `1.20 crore with the ‘smart nakabandi’ which was started 20 days ago. The traffic department is very happy with the progress of the ‘Smart Recovery Campaign’ and has been recovering unpaid dues swiftly without much hassle.

`5-7 lakhs daily recovery: Awad

Around rupees five to seven lakhs are being recovered daily through ‘smart nakabandi’ and smart recovery activities. Therefore, we will recover `16 crore of our unpaid challan very easily very soon without any dispute with the driver or any argument from anyone.
