Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027: Women’s Welfare Committee Seeks Jobs for Rural Women
The Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislature Committee on Women and Child Rights and Welfare, Monika Rajale, directed officials in Nashik district to submit complete proposals for establishing new anganwadis through their respective departments so they can be forwarded to the state government for approval. She stressed that funds allocated for women and child welfare schemes through the Zilla Parishad, Municipal Corporation, and District Annual Plan must be utilized within the stipulated timeframe. Rajale also instructed the Home Department to remain alert regarding incidents involving women in Nashik city and surrounding areas, while ensuring stronger coordination among departments for effective implementation of welfare measures.
The Maharashtra Legislature’s Committee on Women and Child Rights and Welfare is currently on a three-day visit to Nashik district to review welfare initiatives and administrative preparedness. A meeting organized at the government rest house was attended by committee members, including Dr. Manisha Kayande, Seema Hire, Manjula Gavit, Mahesh Sawant, and Hiraman Khoskar. Officials present included Deputy Secretary Vijay Kotamwar, Additional District Collector Hemangi Patil, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Pratibha Sangamnere, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Kirankumar Chavan, who discussed ongoing welfare schemes and administrative coordination for women and children.
Rajale instructed authorities to carry out extensive public awareness campaigns regarding various schemes related to women and child development. She emphasized that complaints concerning child marriages must be treated seriously and immediate legal action should be initiated whenever such incidents are identified. Government departments were also directed to regularly brief public representatives about welfare initiatives and ongoing programs. Committee members stated that involving elected representatives in planning and execution would help improve the effectiveness of women and child welfare schemes across the district. The committee also underlined the need for close monitoring of crimes and incidents affecting women in Nashik and nearby rural areas.
During the meeting, Bhagur Nagaradhyaksha Prerana Balkawade urged the administration to create employment opportunities for rural women in connection with the upcoming Kumbh Mela preparations. She requested that women associated with self-help groups should receive work opportunities during the event and that special attention must be given to single women. Keeping women’s safety and child protection in mind, the committee suggested establishing dedicated assistance centres during the Kumbh Mela period. The committee later conducted an internal review meeting with heads of various government departments to examine the implementation status of women and child development schemes operating in Nashik district.
As part of its three-day district tour, the committee will inspect observation homes, Vishakha Committee offices, Child Welfare Committees, shelters, and residential schools to assess safety measures and welfare facilities available for women and children. Senior officials from multiple departments briefed the committee about ongoing initiatives and challenges faced during implementation. Zilla Parishad CEO Pratibha Sangamnere and Deputy Commissioner of Police Kirankumar Chavan presented details about departmental efforts aimed at strengthening protection mechanisms and welfare delivery. Based on these inspections and meetings, the committee will prepare a detailed report and submit its findings and recommendations to higher authorities for further administrative action.
