Nashik Woman Dies by Suicide Over Alleged Dowry Harassment and Husband’s Extramarital Affair; 2 Arrested

A married woman allegedly died by suicide due to dowry harassment and her husband's alleged extramarital affair in the Jail Road area of Nashik district. The deceased woman’s brother filed a complaint at the suburban police station, after which police arrested two people, including her husband.

According to police complaint, the deceased has been identified as Asha Praveen Ghotekar, had allegedly been subjected to harassment by her in-laws since her marriage. Her family alleged that the accused demanded Rs 25 lakh for the purchase of a flat and a four-wheeler, according the ABP Majha report.

The victim’s brother stated in his complaint that he sold land owned by their mother to arrange money for Asha’s in-laws. He also alleged that 21 tolas (244.93 grams) of gold were given at the time of the wedding to the victim. Despite this, the harassment allegedly continued.

The complaint further alleged that Asha’s husband, Praveen Ghotekar, was involved in an extramarital relationship and that Asha was subjected to repeated physical and mental harassment. The family also alleged that she was threatened on multiple occasions. Police told ABP Majha that Asha allegedly took the extreme step after being unable to bear the continued harassment.

After the complaint was filed, suburban police launched an investigation and arrested two accused, including the husband. Further investigation is underway to determine whether more people were involved in the case.
