The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) will on 26th February 2021 (Friday) observe Bharat Bandh against, inter alia, rising fuel prices, the new e-way bill, Goods and Services Tax (GST).In response to the CAIT’s call for bharat bandh tomorrow, around 40,000 trade associations have decided to extend their support. The All India Transport Welfare Association (AITWA) - the apex body of the organised road transportation companies – will also support tomorrow’s bandh and hold a chakka jam (road blockade).

The CAIT as well as AITWA seek scrapping of the new e-way bill or eliminating certain rules from it. The e-way bill system has been introduced nation-wide for inter-state movement of goods with effect from 1st April 2018. They have also appealed to the government to withdraw heavy taxes on fuel prices and make it uniform across India. Calling the GST 'one of the most complex taxation systems', protesters want a review of the GST system and simplification of the tax slabs.

Here is all you need to know about the Bandh

All commercial markets across the country will remain closed as over 40,000 traders' associations are taking part in the bandh.

Private transport is likely to be hit as the transporters' association (AITWA) have asked all transport companies to park their vehicles between 6am and 8pm as a symbolic protest.

Booking and movement of Bill-oriented goods will be hit.

Dharnas will be held nationwide at 1,500 places.

Reports said All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) and Bhaichara All India Truck Operator Welfare Association (BAITOWA) will not take part in the strike.
