69-year old doctor dies of coronavirus in West Bengal State Orthopaedic Association demands State Honour
A 69-year-old doctor in West Bengal died of COVID-19 at a private hospital in Kolkata. The doctor, who was a well-known orthopaedic was on ventilator since April 17. According to an ANI tweet, West Bengal Orthopaedic Association has demanded state honour for Dr Sisirkumar Mandal during his final rites. A total of 633 cases have been reported in the state, of which 504 are active cases while 109 have been discharged after being cured.
According to the Union health ministry, the number of COVID-19 patients in the state stands at 649. The West Bengal government yesterday clarified that COVID-19 positive patients will have to be mandatorily brought to hospitals, and they could not be allowed to opt for home quarantine. The clarification comes after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee earlier said that the government had decided to home quarantine COVID-19 patients, at their homes.
