The Amritsar Rural Police, along with the Village Defence Committee, have busted a large narco-arms consignment. In this operation, they have arrested two people and seized 42.983 kg of heroin, four hand grenades, a Star Mark pistol, 46 live and 30 bore cartridges, and a motorcycle. The Directorate General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, in an X post, said that after the seizure, they carried out an investigation and arrested two accused. Both the accused are residents of Amritsar. The DGP said that police are investigating and will trace other absconding suspects and uncover the wider conspiracy and whole racket.
Senior Police officials appreciated the role played by the Village Defence Committee.

On January 27, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled a cross-border narco-arms smuggling network by arresting four individuals and seizing 1.5 kg of heroin along with Rs 1.98 lakh in drug proceeds, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Jaskinder Singh alias Sikander, Harpal Singh, Gurmukh Singh and Sukhdeep Singh, all residents of Ranian village in Amritsar.
In addition to the heroin and cash, police recovered two sophisticated firearms—a 9 mm pistol and a .30 bore pistol—along with 34 cartridges. The weapons were found to be manufactured by the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF).
According to DGP Yadav, preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were operating in coordination with foreign-based handlers and were in regular contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms.
Following instructions from their handlers, the accused allegedly retrieved consignments of heroin and illegal arms that were dropped across the border using drones, and subsequently supplied them to various locations across Punjab.
Providing further details, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrests were made during a targeted operation launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs.
Two pistols were recovered following disclosures made by Gurmukh Singh and Sukhdeep Singh, while the 1.5 kg heroin consignment was seized based on information provided by Jaskinder Singh and Harpal Singh.
Bhullar added that investigations revealed all four accused are closely related and belong to an extended family. Harpal Singh and Gurmukh Singh are brothers, while Jaskinder Singh and Sukhdeep Singh are their nephews. All the accused are aged between 19 and 33 years and were found to have no prior criminal record.
