Bengaluru Rain News: At least seven people were killed after a compound wall collapsed near Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Bengaluru’s Shivajinagar area on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, amid heavy rain that lashed the city. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who visited the site, said a total of eight people have died in rain-related incidents across Bengaluru, including one fatality at a city mall.
“The incident is very unfortunate. A very old wall has collapsed. A total of eight people have lost their lives in Bengaluru, seven in this incident and one in an incident in Vega City Mall,” Shivakumar told reporters.
He said five of those killed in the wall collapse were street vendors, while two were residents of Kerala who had come to the city for business.
According to the ANI reports, a civil defence official confirmed that the collapse occurred following heavy rainfall. Relatives of the injured said several people had taken shelter near the wall when it gave way.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of those killed in the incident.
Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) teams have been deployed across the city to assess vulnerable areas and ageing structures as heavy rain continues. GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao said inspections are underway in flood-prone zones to prevent further accidents.
The incident has drawn criticism from opposition leaders. Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa said the tragedy highlighted poor maintenance of old structures and called for urgent preventive measures.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds have disrupted normal life in Bengaluru, with waterlogging and damage reported in several areas.
