BJP alleges 'internal conflict' in Congress after delay to elect Kerala CM

New Delhi, May 14 After the Congress announced party leader V.D. Satheesan as the next Chief Minister of Kerala, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday alleged "internal conflict" within the Congress as the decision was announced 10 days after the May 4 Assembly poll results were declared.

Speaking to IANS, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal said if a party is having difficulty to pick its Chief Minister even after 10 days of the Assembly poll result, "it reflects that there is internal conflict within Congress".

He, however, maintained that it is Congress' internal matter.

"I hope that after he (Satheesan) becomes the Chief Minister, Kerala moves on the path of development," he said.

Echoing similar view, BJP National Spokesperson R.P. Singh said: "The results of the Kerala elections were announced ten days ago, but even after ten days, the Congress could not take a decision on who to elect the Chief Minister of the state."

"It is being reported that there was internal conflict within the Congress leadership," he alleged.

Singh referred to the Congress as "dynasty-driven political party".

The BJP National spokesperson said: "Because this (Congress) is a dynasty-driven political party, their internal disputes often cause suffering for the state and the country."

"Nevertheless, congratulations to V. D. Satheesan, who is going to become the Chief Minister of Kerala," Singh added.

After the Congress High Command finally announced V.D. Satheesan as Kerala's 13th Chief Minister, he spoke exclusively to IANS and said he was dedicating his Chief Ministership to the people of the state.

“I am very grateful to the AICC leaders for entrusting me with this big responsibility. I dedicate my Chief Ministership to the people of Kerala. We will build a strong team that will work for the future of Kerala," Satheesan said.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram again witnessed scenes of political frenzy after a gap of nearly fifteen years as Chief Minister-designate V. D. Satheesan arrived to a thunderous welcome from jubilant party workers and leaders.

The last time the state Congress headquarters had seen such euphoric scenes was in 2011, when then Chief Minister-designate Oommen Chandy arrived after leading the Congress-led UDF to a narrow electoral victory that brought the Congress back to power in Kerala.
