A young businessman had nightmare experience after he befriended a girl via matrimonial site. As per a Bangalore Mirror report, the man was soon being blackmailed to pay Rs 20,000 by the woman. It all began after the woman recorded a video call where he was in the buff and then extracted money from him, threatening that she would upload the videos on social media. Sambit (name changed), the victim, is a resident of RR Layout in Hulimavu. The businessman who also claims to be a social activist revealed, he had created a profile on Jeevan Saathi, a matrimonial portal and was in search of a prospective bride. He came across a profile of a girl named Shreya and they started talking with each other. Shreya claimed to be living in Electronic City, Bengaluru, and Sambit says, she told him that she did not have a good job. Sambit said he sent her links to job openings and soon they started interacting as a married couple. On February 7th, Sambit said Shreya called him on a WhatsApp video call and said, since they were getting married, she would like to see if all his body parts were normal. To assure him that she was also making a full disclosure, she sent him a photo and said this was her nude pic.

Encouraged by this, Sambit revealed himself and Shreya seemed satisfied. But soon after the call was over, Shreya called to say that she had recorded the call and she was going to make the naked video of Sambit public and upload it on social media, if he did not pay her Rs 1 lakh at the earliest. Sambit told her Rs 1 lakh was too much and said he could give her a little money to delete the video. Sambit paid her Rs 5,000 initially through Phone Pe, but she was not happy. As she demanded more money, he paid her another instalment of Rs.5,000. When she continued to demand money, Sambit blocked her number, she then started calling him from different numbers, demanding money, Sambit then again paid Rs, 10,000 online. Despite paying her Rs 20,000, when Shreya continued to blackmail him. Sambit approached the Hulimavu police to file a complaint. “The complainant told us that the woman stays in Electronic City, but when we put her phone number on location tracker, it showed her to be in Howrah, West Bengal,” said a senior police officer.  The Hulimavu police have booked the accused under IPC sections of cheating, extortion and criminal intimidation along with appropriate sections under the Information Technology Act. Shreya is unaware that Sambit has approached the police and filed a case, and she is constantly blackmailing him for money.
