Crew given substandard protective gear during COVID-19 rescue flights: Air India pilots union to govt

The Executive Pilots Association, Air India has in a letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said that pilots and cabin crew are given substandard ill-fitting Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that tear easily on rescue flights.

New Delhi [India], Mar 31 : The Executive Pilots Association, Air India has in a letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said that pilots and cabin crew are given substandard ill-fitting Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that tear easily on rescue flights.

"Our pilots and cabin crew are given substandard ill-fitting PPE that tear easily on rescue flights. Stizers aren't given in sufficient quantities and disinfection processes are short of industry best practices," the Executive Pilots Association, Air India in a letter to Civil Aviation Ministry.

The Indian Pilots' Guild (IPG) too in a letter to Chairman and MD of Air India said that during the rescue flights, the protective equipment being provided to the flight crew has been failing with an "alarming frequency."

"During our recent rescue flights, the protective equipment being provided to the flight crew has been failing with an alarming frequency or has been plagued with other issues," said IPG in a letter to Chairman and MD of Air India.

India has recorded 1,117 active COVID-19 positive cases.
