Deer rescued in Mathura, released in forest

The Wildlife Department personnel and Wildlife SOS, a local NGO, rescued an endangered hog deer being chased by feral dogs at Nagla Vishambhara in the Chata block of Mathura district.

Mathura, April 14 The Wildlife Department personnel and Wildlife SOS, a local NGO, rescued an endangered hog deer being chased by feral dogs at Nagla Vishambhara in the Chata block of Mathura district.

The animal, which had sustained minor injuries, was returned to its natural habitat after medical treatment. After catching the deer, they brought the traumatised animal to a wildlife hospital.

Ilayaraja, Deputy Director Veterinary Services, Wildlife SOS, said, "The male deer was under immense stress and took a couple of hours to recover from the ordeal."

Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder & CEO of Wildlife SOS said, the Indian Hog Deer was an endangered species. It gets its name from the hog-like way, with the head hung low instead of leaping like other deer species, it runs."

Meghraj Sharma, Range Forest Officer, Kosi Kalan Range, Mathura, said, in the past too they had rescued deers and Nilgai from feral dogs.
