Delhi HC to Hear Plea Seeking 6-Year Disqualification of PM Modi Over MCC Violation

The Delhi High Court is set to hear a plea aiming to disqualify Prime Minister Narendra Modi from elections for six years. The petitioner alleges that PM Modi violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by invoking religious deities and places of worship during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Justice Sachin Datta will oversee the proceedings on Friday, April 26. Anand S. Jondhale, the petitioner, refers to Modi’s speech in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, on April 9, where he allegedly sought votes in the name of "god and place of worship," as well as "Hindu deities and Hindu places of worship," and "Sikh deities and Sikh places of worship" during campaign rallies for the Lok Sabha polls.

The plea seeks PM Modi’s disqualification from contesting any elections for six years. Jondhale contends that Modi breached the Model Code of Conduct outlined in Compendium of Instructions Volume-III under Rules of General Conduct I(1) and I(3). According to the provision, no party or candidate should engage in any activity that could exacerbate current divisions, foster animosity, or stir up tensions among various castes, communities, religions, or linguistic groups.
