According to the media reports, the man slipped into a deep drain while walking along the road. A rescue operation was launched, but authorities later confirmed that he had died. Details on how the body was recovered were not immediately available.
The incident comes days after a call centre employee died in a similar case in west Delhi’s Janakpuri area. The man was riding a motorcycle when it fell into a pit dug for construction work by the Delhi Jal Board. The site allegedly had no barricades, warning signs, reflectors or lighting.
Police arrested a sub-contractor linked to the project, Rajesh Kumar Prajapati, and booked him for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. According to reports, Prajapati was among those who knew that the victim’s motorcycle had fallen into the pit but did not inform authorities.
The recent incidents have raised concerns over safety measures at construction and excavation sites in and around the national capital.
