Delhi-NCR Rains: Showers lashed parts of New Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday afternoon, bringing much-needed relief from days of intense heat. Hail and strong winds were reported in areas including Ghaziabad. Dark clouds gathered over the capital around 3 p.m., triggering rain and stormy conditions across several parts of the city and adjoining regions. Visuals shared on social media showed large hailstones falling in Ghaziabad and other NCR areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast rain across Delhi-NCR for Thursday. Gurugram and Faridabad are under a yellow alert, while outer NCR areas such as Meerut have been placed under a red alert.
According to official data, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung, the city’s primary weather station, on Thursday. Other areas recorded slightly lower minimum temperatures — 24.9 degrees Celsius at Palam, 23.6 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road, 25 degrees Celsius at Ridge and 24.1 degrees Celsius at Ayanagar. Delhi’s air quality remained in the “moderate” category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 136. The maximum temperature in the capital is expected to hover around 36 degrees Celsius.
On Wednesday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius. Safdarjung logged 37.1 degrees Celsius, 1.9 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 20.4 degrees Celsius, 3.4 degrees below normal.
